FAQ

Do I have to give birth unmedicated to be supported by a doula?

Absolutely not! I support YOU, your spouse and whatever you want your birth to look like. Birth is beautiful and hard any and every way it comes. What I see as the most important is for a birth story to be positive, memorable and one that YOU Love!

How can a doula support a medicated birth?

There are so many ways to support a medicated labor. Helping a mother move as much as possible will help labor to progress with less medical intervention. Providing support prior to receiving medication can help ease anxiety and will not inhibit your body from progressing into active labor on its own. There are also so many emotional aspects throughout labor and delivery that many times are not addressed by health care professionals and are so important to address to ensure a positive birthing experience.

How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?

I will help your partner support you in whatever way that you want and need. I find that most partners want to help but are not exactly sure how to best support their birthing partner. I can help guide them to physically support you during labor with correct practices or I can take that role so that they can solely focus on supporting you mentally and emotionally.

Do you perform any physical examinations?

Nope! I am not qualified and will not perform any clinical or medical procedures. These aspects of care will be performed ONLY by medical care providers.

What are your interactions with medical staff like?

In many ways I will act as an advocate between you and your medical provider. Although I will not make decisions for you, I can help you communicate effectively with your provider to ensure that you feel confident in making informed decisions throughout your labor and delivery.
